Looking for a good horse?

The main focus at the 71 Ranch is horseback riding and cattle work. You will be riding, working with our ranch crew, moving cattle from pasture to pasture, helping doctor, vaccinate, sort, gather and brand. You may ride for hours looking for strays, missing cattle, and after a long day in the saddle there’s nothing that can beat a relaxing soak in the hot tub under a clear and starry night sky. With an added helping of good ole country hospitality, your visit with us will be the stuff memories are made of.

Of course along with riding comes the normal ranch chores of feeding cattle and horses, fixing fence, checking irrigation ditches, and anything and everything else that needs doing that day. The 71 Ranch offers a unique combination of traditional cowboying along with the day-to-day requirements of a working cattle ranch, and you have the chance to be a part of it all.

We routinely eat breakfast at 6am, catch and saddle our horses by 7am and then hit the trail. We either stop for a picnic lunch on the trail around noon, or catch a hot meal in the Lodge ranch house. We are back in the saddle again by 1:30pm, workin' those doggies ‘til we are done for the afternoon, just in time to relax and clean up a bit before the dinner bell rings for a scrumptious supper at the Lodge.

Each evening during dinner we discuss the next day's schedule of events. You may choose what you would like to participate in: cattle work, Cowboy School, scenic trail rides or a combination. It's your cowboy vacation! You decide!

When you ride with us we guarantee that you are going to have the experience of a lifetime, including getting dusty and dirty right beside us. The 71 has a good riding cavvy with a wide variety of solid ranch horses, so we can match your horse to your individual experience and riding ability.

Your safety and enjoyment are uppermost in our minds. Our experienced cowboys will help you learn to work cattle and ride safely. You will never be allowed or asked to participate in any activity that will put you in harm’s way.

None of the activities at the 71 are "staged" – this is a real working ranch and we do what it takes to get the job done. Cattle work varies from week to week and season to season. There is no guarantee that we will be doing a specific task, such as branding or driving cattle, on any particular day.

Along with the ranch and cattle work (and play), we also provide many other interesting and exciting activities for your enjoyment. The list below depicts some of the experiences available here at the 71, depending on the time of year you join us. We want to make sure you experience as much with us as possible while you are here.
