Nevada's Historic 71 Ranch
The authentic working cowboy
vacation experience.
Discover one of the
best kept secrets of the American West, the Great Basin of
northeastern Nevada — far reaching
sagebrush prairies, the rugged Ruby Mountains, deep, lush
meadows, and meandering willow lined creeks. This is an historic
western region, steeped in the traditions of the vaqueros and
Great Basin buckaroos. Real cowboys still earn a wage fulltime
in the saddle. The large ranches of Elko County are a vital part
of the American cattle industry. Experience
the
intimate workings of a true historic landmark in this country’s
wild and illustrious ranching, past
and present.

. . Adventure. . . History
The 71 Ranch is in the authentic heart of the real West!
Imagine the freedom of riding your horse over
38,000 acres of privately owned ranchland, driving cattle across
the open range under endless blue skies with the scent of
sagebrush drifting up from each stride your horse takes. As deer
and antelope scatter across the trail in front of you, you look
up to follow an eagle or red tailed hawk soaring overhead. The
resounding soft call of a mother to her calf echoes nearby. The
deliberate, quiet movement of your horse awakens the sage that
reaches out desperately grabbing for your legs, begging you,
then quickly slipping behind you silent and still. As you move
towards the small group of cows grazing, their calves, doing
their best to hide from you despite your lofty vantage point,
break and run at the approach of your horse. The saddle creaks
as you turn your horse’s head to start the next bunch moving.
Above the shaded brim of your hat the blueness of the early
morning sky fights away the gray of the dawn and you’re right
where you want to be, surrounded by the peace and quiet
somewhere in the middle of a vast prairie in the clearest air
that Nevada has to offer. Somewhere, the song of a meadowlark
drifts into the distance. Your horse points out the small group
of deer grazing on the next hillside before your eye catches
them.
You should’ve been a cowboy. . .
What are you waiting for?
THIS IS NEVADA . . .

IS THE 71 RANCH
